ECIE Lab’s Inspirational Visit with Dr. Keyue Smedley at UCI Post-APEC Conference

In the wake of the enriching APEC conference, students from the ECIE Laboratory, alongside Professor Katherine Kim’s team from National Taiwan University, had the esteemed opportunity to visit Dr. Keyue Smedley at the University of California, Irvine. This meeting not only bridged academic collaborations but also provided our students with an invaluable learning experience.

Dr. Smedley, an acclaimed figure in power electronics, alternative energy, and motion control, shared insights into her groundbreaking research. Her work encompasses the modeling, control, and development of innovative topologies for switching converters and inverters. Applications of her research are diverse and transformative, ranging from class-D power amplifiers to grid-connected inverters for alternative energy generation.

The ECIE Lab team’s visit to UCI was an enriching episode of academic exchange, learning, and inspiration. It reinforced the importance of collaborative learning and the profound influence that leaders like Dr. Smedley have on the next generation of engineers.

We extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Smedley and her graduate students for their warm welcome and for sharing their remarkable work with us. This visit has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on our students, enriching their academic journey and inspiring them to pursue innovation with passion.
