2018 Project Competition at Electrical Engineering Department, NIU
Design and Evaluation of High-Efficiency 500W Grid-connected Inverter Using Wide-Bandgap Devices

We won first place!!!!!!

In this competition, we proposed the idea of using wide bandgap devices (GaN) to implement a high performance, high power density 500-W digitally controlled inverter.

The ECIE team was awarded the grand prize based on their new innovation and practical ideas.

Preliminary Specifications:

  • Input: 200 Vdc nominal from a specified PV panel.
  • Output: Vout: 110 Vac; Pout: 500 W.
  • The peak efficiency was 98.15%.
