2018 Project Competition at College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, NIU
Design and Evaluation of High-Efficiency 500W Grid-Connected Inverter Using Wide-Bandgap Devices

We won first place!!!!!!

In this competition, we proposed the idea of using wide bandgap devices (GaN) to implement a high performance, high power density 500-W digitally controlled inverter.

There were 18 student groups from three departments that participated in the competition. The ECIE team was awarded the grand prize based on their new innovation and practical ideas.

Preliminary Specifications:

  • Input: 200 Vdc nominal from a specified PV panel.
  • Output: Vout: 110 Vac; Pout: 500 W.
  • The peak efficiency was 98.15%.
